About the Opportunity

Moree Plains Shire Council now has an exciting opportunity for a confident Environment and Compliance Manager to join their team in Moree, Northern NSW on a full-time basis.

Reporting to the Director of Planning and Community Development, this pivotal position is primarily responsible for the efficient and effective administration of the environment and compliance functions of the Council in accordance with the provisions of all relevant Acts and regulations.

More specifically, some of your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Leading a multidisciplinary team, ensuring that an efficient and effective service is provided and that the outcomes are of a high standard;
  • Developing and implementing community education programs related to animal care and control, anti-littering, environmental protection, public health, food safety and similar.
  • Oversee grant funding application process for de-sexing and micro-chipping programs;
  • Providing and presenting regular reports to the Director of Planning and Community Development and Council members as needed; and
  • Interpreting and applying legislation, interviewing members of the public, preparing statements and briefs of evidence, issuing infringement notices, giving evidence at court and attending court when required.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally hold a tertiary qualification in an environmental health or local government regulatory services related field. Candidates without a relevant qualification will need extensive experience in a similar, multi-faceted compliance role.

Demonstrated experience in interpreting and enforcing legislation is essential, and you will be capable of both conducting and overseeing the investigation of complaints related to environmental and compliance matters.

This role would be best suited to a flexible and proactive individual who is well-versed in conflict resolution, and who possesses strong communication skills. Due to the nature of the position, the ability to successfully engage with a variety of stakeholders (including your team and the community), coupled with a community minded approach, will be essential for your success. A proactive and adaptable approach to your work, coupled with a strong attention to detail, will ensure your success.
