Well now you have the opportunity: WHSmith Australia is looking for an experienced multi site manager to join us as the Area Manager for Sydney Airport.

What you’ll do:

As one of our highest profile locations in Australia, you will lead and motivate your team to consistently deliver excellent customer service and shop floor standards. Reporting into the Head of Operations the main purpose of this role is to deliver KPIs and performance objectives in line with the Australian operating plan and strategy. With your commercial expertise you will drive sales, manage cost control, maximise profitability, as well as overseeing loss prevention and people plans.

With the autonomy to make big decisions across the Sydney stores, you’ll need to understand the customer base and each store’s format. In-depth analysis will be essential to your strategy, using data to spot key trends and plan commercial strategies that will appeal to each customer base. To maximise sales, uphold standards and keep customers coming back, it will be down to you to lead, develop and inspire your team.

You will maintain strong relationships with our key stakeholders, working closely with them to resolve any challenges that arise. If you work hard and think smart, you’ll get the results you want. To achieve that you’ll also need to strong team building skills to manage your team of 100 people and a million dollar stock holding.

Who we’re looking for:

You will currently be working in a multi site retailer and delivering to a high standard with the drive and passion to use your expertise to adapt grow our Sydney business. You will be focused on delivering results with the ability to bring a flair for innovation and possess sharp commercial acumen. This will help you plan ahead as you take full responsibility for the WHSmith businesses in this location.

However, it takes more than that to get multiple stores to perform. You’ll also need to be impeccably organised with the ability to remain calm under pressure. Last, but never least, you need the communication skills to connect with hundreds of diverse staff and the people management experience to take care of a range of potential challenges. Engaging and persuasive, you’ll inspire your team to perform and achieve the targets you set them.
